All birthdays are special, but even more so when you are a Guinness World Record holder. Corduroy, a gorgeous feline that hails from Oregon, currently holds the title of oldest living cat. At 27 years old he still loves the company of his owner, Ashley Reed Okura, and remains young by enjoying the great outdoors.
Corduroy was born August 1, 1989. Okura chose him from a litter of kittens when she was only six years old. Since then, he has been her sidekick throughout life all of life's major events. When it was announced Corduroy would be named the oldest living cat, Okura made to sure to celebrate with a brand new mouse for her old pal.
According to an article from Today, Okura explained that the secret to a long life for your cat comes down to a few simple things. She said, "allowing him to be a cat: hunting and getting plenty of love! Growing up on 160 acres in Oregon, I allowed Corduroy to roam the ranch freely, so he always gets lots of exercise."
Corduroy claimed the spot of the oldest living cat after the previous reigning feline, Tiffany Two, passed away. She lived to be 27 years old, 2 months, and 20 days, according to Today.
Corduroy keeps his interests limited to eating cheese, chasing mice, and roaming outside. However, don't even try to give him a toy because if it can't be eaten then he has no desire for it.
Long lives must be in the genes. Corduroy's brother lived to be 19 years old!
While he may be the reigning oldest cat alive, he is not the oldest cat to ever live. That title belongs to Crème Puff who lived to be 38 years old, Today reports.
His mellow nature and love for a good catnap makes him an excellent companion for lazy afternoons.
Happy birthday, Corduroy! Cheers to many more! Spread the word by sharing with your friends.
