Doggy mom documents epic last day with pup before putting her down – cue the tears

After making the difficult decision to euthanize a beloved pet, we must then decide how to we spend their final hours. What is the best way to honor the life of a special companion and confidante, whose life and death are both our responsibility?
Kyle Amick recently went through the heartbreak of deciding to euthanize her cherished dog, Hannah. Seizures and chronic pain had plagued Hannah for months, even causing multiple falls up or down the stairs. Medications were somewhat helpful but took a different kind of toll on the dog, who also had kidney trouble.

"I finally decided that keeping her on the meds was selfish, but keeping her off of them was just as cruel," Amick wrote in a Facebook post. "So I decided to give her one last hoo-rah day of pampering, like the queen she's always been, and let her go."
Amick, a professional photographer, documented Hannah's last day with photographs.
First, they stopped at the doggie spa for a relaxing aromatherapy bath.
Then the ladies went through a fast food drive through for some lunch...
...and stopped by the park to say goodbye to some old friends.
Finally, Hannah rested a while while Amick painted her toenails. Then it was time to go to the veterinary clinic.
Amick's mother took the last photo.
Amick stayed with Hannah as she went on to "where there would be no pain or seizures, no whimpering in the night. Just peace and hopefully love."
In a beautifully decorated casket made by Amick's stepfather, Hannah was laid to rest on August 26 under a pine tree in her own yard.
Amick's original post about Hannah's last day went viral, and a few unsavory individuals have attempted to capitalize on Amick's grief. She has since posted publicly stating that any crowdfunding accounts related to Hannah's death are fake, and apologizing to anyone who felt moved to donate to those accounts.

"I wish this post hadn't gone viral. But I'm also glad it did," Amick wrote on Facebook. "I pray that if at all possible, every dog has a last day like Hannah."
