See why dog refuses to leave bestie after getting adopted

Alaina Brinton got a little more than she bargained for when she started looking for a dog to adopt after her older canine passed away. She opted to visit a local shelter to find one pup in need of a good home. Instead, she left with a pair of the most lovable furry pals.
Lucy and Sully -- two dogs with the most interesting stories of how they ended up at the shelter. Sully was adopted and then returned to shelter while Lucy was originally a stray.

Lucy and Sully developed a close bond while living in the animal shelter together. The two became inseparable with Lucy taking on the role of mom to the younger Sully, who was just a puppy at first.

Brinton told The Dodo that she'd originally seen a photo of Lucy at a neighborhood human society. When she inquired about adopting her, workers at the center asked Brinton to watch the pair of dogs together.
"I fell in love right away. Besides, it was obvious Sully was looking to Lucy to show him what things were or weren't okay, and I wouldn't have had the heart to split them up," Brinton said.
While both dogs were initially nervous, they relied on each other as they adjusted to their new home.

Seven years later they are still best buddies.

While Lucy is getting older and beginning to slow down, Sully keeps a close on his best friend. The two enjoy a comfortable companionship with their new owner.
