Mothering Cat adopts a Litter of Puppies

Some creatures are just meant to be parents. This loving South Carolina cat turned a loss into a heart-warming story when she adopted an abandoned litter of puppies after her kittens died. This unusual story shows that love truly can overcome even the most incredible differences.
On April 17, 1993, Miss Kitty gave birth under a neighbor's trailer. Her owners, Missy Grant and Ryan Grant found the litter and noticed that they didn't look very healthy. Within a few days, the entire litter died.

The Grant's dog, Smoochie had also recently given birth, to a litter of puppies, but Smoochie wasn't the mothering type. She was uninterested in taking care of her litter and regularly ignored their cries for food.
"Smoochie didn't want anything to do with the puppies at all ... They would be lying around ... out there ... and she would just drag them around with a chain and pay it no attention." Ryan said in the video below.
One night the couple returned home from an errand and noticed that the puppies were missing. After Missy looked around for them, her neighbor told her she'd seen Miss Kitty taking the puppies into a hole under her trailer.
The Grants moved the puppies, and Miss Kitty, to a safer location and then contacted a local news station who reported on the story.
"I've never seen anything like it in my life, and I've been around animals my entire life," Ryan said.
While the local veterinarian told the Grant's that it was okay for Miss Kitty to nurse the puppies, he recommended that they encourage Smoochie to feed her puppies too. This helped reduce the pressure for Miss Kitty to produce so much milk.
While this behavior is certainly atypical, Miss Kitty is not the only cat to share her love with a puppy, in 2016, a cat adopted an abandoned puppy into her litter too, according to Today.
