Dog sniffs the blanket and feels like something is up. That's when his soldier owner gives him the biggest surprise

Soldiers make countless sacrifices. They travel far away from home, give up many daily comforts and don't see their loved ones for months on end. And not all of those loved ones are human.
You probably know where this story is going by now. This soldier returned home and decided to surprise his favorite furry friend by hiding under the blanket. Will the little guy figure out what's up?

It doesn't start out that promising, but once he sees the blanket he goes to investigate – and as soon as he recognizes the smell, he's onto the trick. The way he starts whining is just too cute!
It's not surprising that it only took a whiff for him to solve the mystery of who is under the blanket. As NOVA notes, dogs' senses of smell are more than five times better than a human's. It's gonna take more than a blanket to outsmart this pup.
But can dogs really remember someone, months or years after they've seen them? I Heart Dogs says that their memory is actually tied to that amazing sense of smell. They'll remember what you smell like and what they felt about you, and obviously this dog has some pretty happy memories.
The man finally peels back the blanket a little bit and the dog can't handle it.
And from then on he's just a bounding, licking, blur of happiness. You can tell by the photos how happy he is to have his dad back. He can't contain himself at all.
