Rescued dog struggled with health and lost his eyesight. Now, he sees his family for first time after surgery

Are you as immensely thankful for medical technology breakthroughs as I am? I know this Irish Terrier’s family is. Their beloved Duffy, who is a rescue dog, suffers from diabetes. Sadly, the dread disease took his eyesight.
Eventually, with the help of Dr. Kevin Kumrow, the veterinarian who regulated Duffy’s diabetes, the lucky dog was able to have eye surgery by Dr Brady Beale at the Veterinary Referral Center in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, diabetes is rather common in dogs. Statistics show that anywhere between 1 in 100 and 1 in 500 dogs suffer from the disease. Although it is not breed specific, some breeds do seem to have more trouble by developing diabetes. All terriers are inherently more likely to get canine diabetes, which typically occurs between 4 and 14 years of age, and more frequently in unspayed females than males.
Duffy is not only lucky to have regained his eyesight, but he seems to have won the jackpot. Not only can he see again, but the people he can see are those who love him enough to hang through the ordeal with him.
As his humans welcome him after surgery, his tail becomes a blur as he wags it ecstatically. He goes from one person to another, happily licking at the air and smiling his doggy smile.
Wonder how they knew Duffy had diabetes to start with? Here are some signs to watch for in your own dog. Excessive thirst, increased urination, increased hunger, sudden weight loss, despite an aggressive appetite.
Other signs are obesity, weakness or fatigue, thinning or dull hair, cloudy eyes, depression and vomiting.
Duffy is surrounded by people he loves and who love him. His realignment with a seeing world is incredible, and he is one very happy dog. Still, he’ll have to be treated for his disease for the rest of his life.
After watching this video and seeing how happy Duffy is, does it make you want to hug your healthy dog and be grateful for his health? Or is your dog one that suffers from the same or another disease? Tell us about your own furbuddy in the comments!
