Dogs give unconditional love and loyalty to their owners every day. Perhaps no dog better embodies that than little Cesur, a dog from Turkey who has lost his best friend and who mourns him daily.
Cesur was owned by 79-year-old Mehmet Ilhan, who became ill and passed away at a hospital in Bursa, Turkey. Ilhan's son, Ali, stressed the unique, loving connection that existed between his father and Cesur.

"Because of my father's paralysis, they had a different kind of connection," said Ali. "When my father was in the hospital during his last days, Cesur stopped eating."

But Cesur's loyalty and deep grief for Ilhan's passing went farther than anyone could possibly expect. When Ilhan's body was returned home for burial, Cesur remained close to it at all times. On the day of the funeral procession, Cesur led the way to the mosque, then sat sadly, head hanging by the coffin during the ceremony.

"Nobody could touch him until my father was taken to the grave and was buried," said Ali.

Ali took Cesur into his home, but the little pup couldn't get over his heartbreak. Every day the dog would travel into the city to visit Ilhan's grave.
Ali saw the dog sneak out of the house when he left for work in the morning, but he didn't know where Cesur was going until he followed him one day.

"The people who work in the cemetery say the first thing he does in the morning is visit the grave of my father," said Ali.

Ali doesn't know how long Cesur will make the daily journey to Ilhan's grave, but what he does know is that Cesur will always have a home with him.

"Cesur has always been a noble animal," said Ali. "He will live with me from now on."
We grieve with Cesur and salute his love and dedication to his owner.
