'Lifeless' dog was in bad shape when he was found in a burning home. Luckily, firefighter on the scene was swift to act

Firefighters from the Bakersfield Fire Department in California were working to put out a garage fire that had spread to the main house. It was there that one firefighter, Matt Smith, fought the flames to enter the house only to find an unresponsive dog lying under a burning sofa.
Smith rushed the dog back outside where he and his colleagues immediately went to work reviving the little Shih Tzu named Jack. Jack was laid out on the ground, seemingly lifeless, and a small oxygen mask, designed for pets, was attached to his face.

As Jack's rescuers waited for the oxygen to work through his body, they gently rubbed his back until Jack began to breathe on his own. It was very touch-and-go for a few minutes.
“I thought Jack was going to die,” said department spokesperson John Frando. “He was in really bad shape.”
But with the assistance of the firefighters, Jack began the long road to recovery. He suffered injuries to his respiratory tract and burns to his paws, and he spent the night after the rescue receiving “extensive oxygen therapy.”
Thankfully, Jack was recently reunited with his family who had escaped from the fire unharmed. He also got the chance to meet his rescuer, firefighter Smith, and the two posed for a celebratory picture.
Our hats are off to the heroic firefighters whose quick thinking and compassion for an injured animal helped save Jack's life. Watch the thrilling video below of Jack's rescue, and share this story of heroism with your family and friends on Facebook.
