Rescuers find a scared Mom dog in abandoned house - but she wasn't alone

Abandoned houses are sometimes the abode of those who are homeless with no other shelter from the elements. This time, the homeless one had four legs and a sad story.
A momma dog had made her home in a decrepit, falling down house that wasn't fit for man nor beast. Yet she had holed up here and was taking care of her little family all on her own.

When the folks from Stray Rescue of St. Louis heard about this little dog, they knew she was most likely in dire straits. But finding her and her puppies proved to be harder than they thought. Looking through the undergrowth around the house, they thought they saw a dog. Getting into the house suddenly became even more important.
After much effort, they were able to locate the mother dog, who was scared, but not aggressive. Hearing the puppies, some of whom ventured into sight, they decided to save them all.
Little pups peeked out at their rescuers, not sure what to think. It's unlikely that they had ever seen humans before.
As the puppies were lifted out of the only home they'd ever known, they did what all dogs do when they are happy - they wagged their tails.
Once they got all the puppies out of the house, carrying them in a basket seemed the best way to move them to their new location.
With mom keeping a careful eye on the proceeding, the kind people from the rescue transported them all to the shelter. Notice how bad the momma looks - she's suffering from skin disorders that she has passed along to her babies.

People who risk life and limb by climbing into a house that should be condemned are to be commended. They certainly make the world a better place, for the momma dog—whom they named Solar—and her seven pups. Share her story. Because the world needs more people like this!
