Owners moved and left their dog behind along with the trash. Here's the dog now

It was a heart-wrenching scene found by Mike Diesel of the Detroit Youth & Dog Rescue. A family had moved out of their home, leaving household items they no longer needed at the curb -- and their dog. Loyal and faithful, the dog remained curled up on the mattress, waiting for his beloved owners to return.
This dedicated companion, named Boo, had been living on the mattress for more than a month, waiting for his family in vain. Neighbors dropped off food and water for the dog that had become part of their lives. Finally, one of the neighbors put in the call to Diesel, who came out to assess the situation and try to get Boo to come with him.

This was far easier said than done. Boo had kept his vigil and was reluctant to leave the place where his family had dumped him. "He was just laying there, being his loyal self," said Diesel. "Pillows were still on the mattress. Being the loyal dog he was supposed to be, he waited for his master to come back."
Diesel set out to win Boo's trust and get him to a safer location. He spent 11 hours with Boo the first day he met him, trying to get the dog used to his presence. Then, Diesel went for a tried but true option: food. Boo was given a dinner of hamburgers and fried chicken, which piqued his interest.
The next morning, Diesel returned with breakfast for Boo, who couldn't resist the McDonald's breakfast delights. Slowly, Diesel was able to place a collar on Boo and take him for a walk.
"Once I got that on him, I walked him for about half an hour," Diesel said. "Just being right there next to him, gaining that trust. After that we sat on the ground, on a blanket, for an hour."
Finally, Boo trusted Diesel enough to leave his old home. "We kind of talked to each other to make sure we understood each other's feelings," Diesel explained. "He knew I wasn't going to hurt him."
Diesel took Boo to a veterinarian right away and learned that Boo tested positive for heartworm. He began treatment that afternoon, and his prognosis looks excellent.
It turns out that Boo is a true family dog: gentle, loving and friendly with everyone, including other dogs.
Boo has been placed in a foster home and is learning to be loved and appreciated for his sweet nature. Hopefully, Boo will have a forever home in the very near future.
