Vet was asked to euthanize dog but opts to do something much better

When an emaciated, sick pit bull came into Dr. Setzer's Lesslie Animal Clinic in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the kind veterinarian took one look and knew he had to do something to save the dog's life. He had what the doctor called "the it factor," and although his distraught owners had asked to have him put to sleep, Dr. Setzer thought of a better plan.
Debo—whose name means "determined"— was a seven-year-old, male pit bull with multiple medical problems. Not only was he grossly underweight, but he had severe infections in both his eyes and ears, hookworms, and heartworm disease. A dire situation for the dog, but one that Dr. Setzer was convinced he could salvage.

His face was so swollen he could only see out of one eye. But that eye had the spark of light in it still!
His body was so thin that all his bones showed.
And his ears—oh, they were a mess! His family didn't want to euthanize him, but they knew they couldn't afford to treat him. Dr. Setzer convinced them to sign him over to the clinic. The family paid what they could toward his treatment, but more help was needed.
So Dr. Setzer put in a call to Big Hearts Big Barks Animal Rescue. They, in turn, placed Debo in foster care so he'd have a good home while his extensive regimen proceeded. His routine included medications, treatments, and frequent trips back to the clinic where he was dearly loved.
Debo has come a long way since he first walked into Dr. Setzer's clinic with, figuratively speaking, a noose around his neck. He's almost unrecognizable now, but his journey to wellness isn't over yet. He still needs to have a double ear ablation, a surgery that will remove the ear canals. His heartworms are still a problem and he needs to be neutered, too. Big Heart Big Barks has raised over $1,390 toward covering his upcoming procedures, but they need another $1,610 for Debo's medical bills.
