This cat with the sad looking eyes has stolen the hearts of people everywhere

It began as a typical story for a feral kitten. Mami, her mother, and her siblings Louis and Henry, were living rough, trying to stay alive in a cold winter. Even San Francisco, CA is cold in the wintertime.
Then they were found and rescued.

Mami at first was very skeptical of humans. She was shy and hid all the time. She looked sad. This is common in slightly older feral kittens. Unless they are caught by eight weeks old, it's a toss-up whether they will easily adapt to a domestic human household.
But "not easily" is not the same as "not at all." Sinead Brooks and her future husband didn't initially intend to adopt a kitten, until a friend introduced them to Mami. They were immediately taken with her.
Unfortunately, Mami was not immediately taken with them. She spent the first few weeks hiding in the bathroom (mostly in the sink), hissing and running away if anyone approached. Sinead spent hours with her and read up on ferals as much as possible, but the timetable was really up to Mami.
Eventually, Mami ventured out of the bathroom and began to get accustomed to her surroundings. She even, tentatively, began to ask for a cuddle.
Now she will do so by pawing at the person's arm and announces her arrival in the room with an imperative mew.
The real turning point for her, though, came when the couple adopted another kitten, rambunctious Morty.
Morty is much more adapted to humans, so Mami has learned from him that humans aren't so bad. At this point, she is a happy, healthy kitten who loves her home. Her story shows that one should never give up on a feral kitten, just because she's fearful.
