Dog raises tiny kitty with thumbs and becomes his fluffy gentle giant

Skywalker was only three weeks old when he first arrived at an emergency vet on May 28, 2017. He needed love and attention. He also needed to be bottle fed and weaned, and he had health issues. In addition to being polydactyl (having extra toes), he was deaf. White kitties often are.
There were also concerns that he had neurological damage, thanks to the gene that also made his fur white. But fortunately, he turned out to be fine.

The little kitten was quickly adopted by a man working at the hospital and brought home to a household that already included a cat and a dog. His wife, Kim Downie, announced the new arrival on their Instagram account the next day.
The resident cat Vader (who is pure black) initially avoided Skywalker. But the Golden Retriever Mojito quickly investigated the little intruder, sniffing and licking him all over.
Skywalker quickly settled in and Mojito showed him the ropes. A service dog, Mojito already had an affectionate relationship with Vader. She was used to cats.
Mojito acted as if she were Skywalker's mom. She licked him clean and snuggled up with him. She even taught him how to watch birds. And Mojito loved his mom back, even if she was big and shaggy and didn't look like him.
Skywalker has grown into a healthy, happy kitty. Even Vader cuddles with him now. But Skywalker and Mojito's bond remains as strong as ever. She is his true mom.
