Eastern Ontario, Canada, can get quite cold in the winter. On this particular night, the temperature was -25°C (-13°F) when a couple heard scratching and meowing at their door. Wondering what in the world was going on out there, they opened the door.
In strolled a beautiful grey and white cat, who immediately cuddled up with them and started purring. "He was skinny, and curled right up to us. We gave him food and he inhaled it like he was starving," reddit user thejesskat said.

He was so happy to be in a nice, warm home. Just a little while later, it began to snow heavily. How fortunate that they opened their door to the affectionate cat!
It didn't take long at all for the couple to see that this was a very special cat. His right front paw was shaped like the salute of Spock in Star Trek, so naturally, the name stuck.
The paw's deformity probably comes from the same issue as polydactylism, which causes cats to have extra toes. This time, though, there were only two bones coming from the wrist instead of four. You can see the extra toe pads that should have developed into actual toes, if all the bones were there.
He was so sweet and affectionate that they were sure somebody must be missing him. So they made up some flyers and posted them around town in hopes that his people would come for him. So far, nobody has. Local rescues have no record of someone looking for a cat like Spock, and a visit to check him out for a microchip revealed that he doesn't have one.
So what will happen to Spock now? The couple already love him and are attached, so if no one claims him, he has a home for life with them. What can we say? Just this: May he live long and prosper!
