Dog missing for over a year turns back up and you'll never guess where he was

On Christmas Day, when Jamie Bergmann's boyfriend opened the back door to let their dog, Aspen, back in the house, he didn't count on an unexpected present: another dog! The blue-eyed Husky was a dog that neither Bergmann nor her boyfriend recognized, and as they began to do some investigating, they found a story beyond their expectations.
Bergmann recalls her boyfriend's phone call to her that day: "So I get a call from my boyfriend and he says 'funny story.' He had let out our younger husky, Aspen, out to go to the bathroom in the backyard and he said when he went to get her back inside that there was another husky in our yard. He said he brought it in and he was skinny and so wet that the whole back half of him was covered in ice."

The strange dog was brought into their house in Missouri and given a warm bath and some good food. Then the detectives went to work by taking the Husky to the veterinarian to be scanned for a microchip. Thankfully, the dog was chipped, and it turned out that he was a very long way from home. The Husky's name was Koda, he has been missing for over a year, and he was from New Mexico, four states and almost a thousand miles from his home!
No one can know what Koda encountered on his journey or why he ended up in Bergmann's yard, but she believes that it was meant to be. She lost an older Husky a few weeks before Christmas and had been struggling with that loss when Koda arrived.
"The fact that we had a husky pass away the first of December, it makes me think did she have something to do with it? Did she send this dog to us because he needed help? How did he jump the fence in my yard? How? It's so crazy," said Bergmann.
For Bergmann, Koda's presence has helped her begin the grieving process for her own Husky. "He came at the right time and it all just kind of worked out because he's really helping us heal from the loss of our other dog and it's nice to be able to have him here throughout the holidays when it's always rough. And we have this other dog that we can focus on and love and he's giving us back a little bit also. It's really cool," she said.
As for Koda, he will be on his way back home to his family within the next few weeks, and hopefully, his grand journeys have come to an end. Watch the video about Koda's adventure and then share this amazing story with your family and friends on Facebook.
