After being given up to shelter, wobbly cat finally finds someone to love him for who he is

Born in 2011, Helix is a loving, happy tabby cat in Austin, TX. But he is also a special needs kitty with a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. It affects his balance and coordination. Basically, he's constantly falling down.
Helix's previous family couldn't handle his disability, so they surrendered him to local shelter Austin Pets Alive in late 2016.

Helix felt abandoned and upset. He didn't understand what he'd done wrong. And for the same reason he had been surrendered to the shelter, he would struggle to find another home.
Special needs cats can be a special challenge, particularly for pet parents who haven't anticipated the extra work to take care of one. But just because they're not perfect, that doesn't mean they aren't loving pets who can have full and even long lives.
Fortunately, one of the shelter workers, Maya G., visited and showed an interest in Helix. While Helix's former owners saw him as a problem child, Maya G. saw a sweet, loving kitty just looking for a furever home.
As soon as he met her, Helix just wanted to play.
Maya decided to adopt Helix. As soon as he came home, he became a playful, chatty goof. Helix loves to play and to chase his toys, no matter how many times he has to fall and get back up to do it. He's found a stable, loving home that embraces his differences. Welcome home, Helix.
