Cat with a permanent grumpy face is constantly stealing hearts at shelter (5+ photos)

The ginger cat was wandering in the rain on a London street, injured, in pain and in need of immediate help. A kind man walking nearby saw the cat and contacted the RSPCA of England & Wales, and it sent an animal control officer to the scene. What the officer found was a severely injured cat desperately in need of medical attention.
The officer raced the cat back to the RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital where he was evaluated to determine the extent of his injuries. The cat, called Saul by the veterinarians on staff, was sick, roughed up and suffered from injuries to its jaw, eye and teeth.

“He was in a very sorry state ... and had discharge coming from his eyes and nose and looked very poorly indeed," said Caroline Allen, the London veterinary director for the RSPCA. "We believe he was involved in a road traffic accident." Saul was not microchipped, and the clinic staff believes he lived his life as a stray on the streets.
Saul was quickly medicated and treated, and on the road to healing. It was as he was cared for by the Putney hospital staff that a peculiar quirk of Saul's came to light: No matter what was going on around him, he always looked like he was grumpy.
No one is certain if the permanently grumpy look on Saul's face was caused by his injuries in the car accident or if he was born with this constant scowl. However, everyone at the hospital notes that the frown does not at all reflect Saul's sweet, loving, affectionate personality.
Whether Saul is posing for pictures or checking out what is going on around the hospital, that grumpy look is always there.
“Despite his constant scowl, Saul’s actually really sweet and friendly,” Allen said. “He’s recovering really well from his injuries and we hope he will soon be ready to move to our cattery at Southall to find a new home as we don't rehome directly from the hospital.”
Saul has stolen the hearts of everyone at the hospital, and now that his story has gone viral, he has also stolen his fair share of hearts around the world. With his unique look and endearing personality, Allen and the other veterinary staff are certain that Saul will find a loving, forever home in no time.
“We’re sure someone will fall in love with this glum-looking puss," Allen stated. "In fact, we think he could be a bit of a star. We’re sure he’d give Grumpy Cat a run for his money — that’s why we’re affectionately nicknaming him Grumpy Cat 2.0!”

Regardless of his eternal frown, Saul is as sweet as can be. After all, it is what is inside that counts. For Saul, that inside is filled with love, gentleness and lots of cuddles. Hopefully, he will recover swiftly from his injuries and find a home that appreciates his sour puss and loving attitude.
