These feline twin sisters share the most enchanting of features – watch their eyes

Iriss and Abyss are said by some to be the most beautiful twin cats in the world. However, it's not just their gorgeous white coat that has people doing a double take. The pair was born with Heterochromia Iridis, a Greek term meaning "differently colored irises." They share the unique trait of having one brown eye and one blue eye.
According to an article from Know Your Cat, cats with a white or white-spotted gene usually develop Heterochromia. This gene impacts the color of the coat and eyes. White-spotted genes are responsible for tuxedo cats, while the white gene (S) produces a completely white cat such as the case of Iriss and Abyss. All kittens are born with blue eyes. However, the S gene ultimately impacts the amount of melanin that reaches the iris of one eye, causing that eye to remain blue.

The sisters share more than a similar look. They are a bonded pair with plenty of Instagram photos to prove it. Often, they can be found snuggling and playing together.

While the melanin condition is referred to as "odd-eyed", the stark difference in the colors of their eyes is absolutely breathtaking. It's a special feature that make these already-beautiful cats stand out even more.

A close-up of the eyes gives an even deeper look at the vast difference between the two colors. Know Your Cat indicates that if you look closely at a small kitten's eyes you may be able to see the onset of Heterochromia by the subtle differences in the shades of blue in their eyes.
