Hikers to the mountains of Gimmelwald, Switzerland, are buzzing about an unlikely tour guide. In a recent post on reddit, a hiker from Hungary recounts his experience hiking in the area and the furry sidekick that helped him find his way down the mountain.
Identified only by his reddit account name as sc4s2cg, the traveler recounted how he sprained his ankle and got into a predicament of how to descend the mountain when the trail he planned to take was closed. To his rescue came an unlikely guide. A black and white cat appeared out of the wilderness and led him down the mountain.
“He [the cat] was just wandering around, found me while I was resting from a hike. Then he was walking and kept looking at me to follow, led me straight to the path that would take me back down to the valley," sc4s2cg recounted in his post.
The encounter was recorded on video and shared on reddit.
The video shows the feline friend seemingly calling upon the hiker to follow him/her down the trail, and the cat makes several stops to turn and around as if to check and make sure he/she is still being followed.
The discussion board was quickly populated by other travelers that shared having had similar sightings of this worldly feline accompanying them on their hikes. Another hiker, identified as starspace1, even shared his own photo of the cat.
The cat was identified as belonging to the owners of the nearby Mountain Hostel.
Perhaps the cat is in on the family business and simply guiding would-be customers to the hostel, or maybe he/she is just looking for company, but no matter his/her motives, this cat is one expert travel guide and a delight to hikers.
