Blake the cat is a toe-biter – but see why his habit is a true lifesaver

If you've ever suffered the errant bite of a miffed or playful cat, you know how painful those razor-sharp teeth can be. A quick kitty bite can be quite the jolting experience, and that is precisely what one kitty is counting on.
Blake, a 1-year-old rescue cat, lives with his owner in Fort Worth, Texas. Blake has taken a keen interest in biting his owner's toes as he sleeps, and his owner actually appreciates Blake's painful pincers. How could this be, you might ask. Are these two a serendipitous pairing of a sadistic feline bent on nothing more than torturing his owner with painful kitty bites and an owner with a penchant for masochism? Well, like most things, there's more to this story, and it's really quite amazing.

Blake's owner, Glen Schallman, suffers from a rare combination of brain disorders in addition to having a brain tumor, which causes him to go through potentially fatal seizures on a daily basis, according to USA Today.
For Glen, suffering these seizures during sleep can be especially dangerous as they can interrupt his ability to breathe. Never fear! This is when Blake's toe biting is at its best.
Yes, Blake, who has had no training as a therapy cat, came to his owner's rescue one night and saved his life with a swift bite of his toes. Blake's bite did the trick and woke Glen up, freeing him from the dangerous situation, USA Today explains.
Blake has also learned the telltale signs of when a seizure is coming on and runs to his owner to provide comfort and keep him from harm.
Blake and Glen truly have formed a strong and unique bond. It is a friendship that has arguably helped Glen become the oldest living person suffering from these rare brain conditions, CBS News reports.

It's clear Glen could not be happier with the little rescue cat that has rescued him.
