This is what happens when you leave the horse alone in the snow

When you were a kid, didn't you love going outside and playing in the snow? Well, horses feel the same way, especially the feisty horse in the video below. He can't resist getting in a good roll, a little leap, and even a short run. He makes horse-sized snow angels and is pretty darn adorable to watch.
Horses are known for getting a little silly in fresh snow. It seems like they love it just as much as kids do. If you ever want to get great photos of your horse, just make sure to have your camera on hand when you turn him out after a snowfall.

While horses may enjoy the winter weather, keeping them safe when they're turned out becomes more of a challenge. Equus Magazine notes that it's important to provide your horse with shelter during the winter. Giving him plenty of hay and ensuring that he has access to unfrozen water can go a long way toward keeping him healthy. Colic is always a concern in the winter, but keeping your horse eating and drinking normally can help to prevent it.
But there's one additional danger that comes with snow, and that's ice. Horses do just fine in snow, but ice can have deadly effects. It's important to keep a close eye on the footing in your horse's pasture in the winter. In some cases, if ice is present, it may be safer to keep your horse indoors or turn him out in an indoor arena until the ice has melted. Thoroughly sanding the ice or letting your horse go barefoot can improve his traction, but neither method is foolproof.
The best way to keep your horse safe in the winter? Maintain the footing in your horse's turnout so that water runs out and away from the area. Without pooling water, significant ice shouldn't form. Your horse will be able to go out and play without the risk of a slip, fall, or injury.
