Neighbor's cat visits his cat girlfriend almost each day for 2 years (8+ photos)

It's a love story for the ages. Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. And for two years, their sweet relationship blossomed and eventually took the internet by storm.
The couple in this story are two Bostonian cats: Sophie, a black-and-white rescue cat adopted in 2014, and Scottie, her orange-and-white boyfriend. Shortly after she was adopted by Christiana Viscusi, Sophie went on her first walk around her new neighborhood. She eventually caught the eye of Scottie.

"I remember when I first started taking her out on the leash, Scottie would come over and watch from across the lawn or driveway without coming too close," Viscusi tells LoveMeow.
At first, Sophie played hard to get. Viscusi says, "Sophie was too busy for him ... but soon, he became bolder and would sit closer, like he was waiting for an invite to join in. Sophie didn't seem to mind he was there as long as she didn't have to pay attention to him much."
But Scottie was not to be deterred. He was persistent and kept hanging around in the distance, hoping to win over Sophie.
"His persistence started paying off, and soon, Sophie came to expect him on her adventures and allowed him to sit with her," says Viscusi.
Scottie was smitten, and Sophie began to think he might be worth her time. Viscusi recalls, "The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is open the porch door so Sophie can look outside. Many mornings Scottie is sitting on his driveway looking up, and they watch each other."
Viscusi say, "If Scottie sees us sitting on the porch from his lawn, he walks over, politely uses the sidewalk, and waits, hoping for her to come down."
For two years, wherever Sophie went, Scottie would follow. They were truly the best of friends.
"Scottie really is the cutest 'boy next door' neighbor. All he ever really wanted was to join in and be pals.... Well ... and maybe a quick kiss," Viscusi remembers.
Unfortunately, Viscusi reports on her Instagram account that earlier this month Sophie suddenly became ill. A severe blockage and then aspirated lungs put her on a ventilator, and sadly, at the beginning of June, she passed away.
Viscusi writes on her Instagram page: "She was weened off the ventilator this afternoon for 1 1/2 but had to go back on after elevated breathing. The plan was to give her more time to heal, but later tonight she slipped away. I wish this wasn't real. I don't want to tell the world she's gone ... heartbroken."
On Sophie's Instagram page, Viscusi posted a video of a forlorn Scottie coming to the front porch steps, looking for his beloved Sophie. We feel your pain, Scottie, and we hope that you and your Sophie will be reunited in spirit someday.
Please share the beautiful relationship that these two cats had with your friends and family on Facebook.
