The Ferray Corporation of Japan has gone to the cats! Using an innovative, empathetic strategy, this internet solutions company works to get stray and abandoned cats off the streets, and pays its employees for each one they rescue or adopt.
To increase productivity, reduce workload stress, and contribute to the community, the Ferray Corporation decided to introduce cats to the equation.
The company started out by rescuing nine kittens, and those cats became permanent office residents. As the kittens grew into adult cats, the company saw its employees' stress levels decrease and communication and interaction between workers because more frequent and positive.
The Ferray Corporation encourages its employees to bring their pets to work with them. Every day is "Bring Your Pet to Work Day" at this company!
But what about employees who don't have a pet? Japan is known for its workaholic atmosphere, and many people can't own pets because they don't have the time to care for them.
This company has a solution that benefits the employee and a cat in need of a home. For every cat rescued and adopted by an employee, the Ferray Corporation gives that employee a monthly "cat bonus" of 5,000 yen or $45.oo USD.
When hiring new employees, Hidenobu Fukuda, the president of Ferray Corporation, says the most important personal quality they look for is "a love of felines."
The nine office cats have free access to the facility, and can often be found relaxing on top of bookcases, on tablets, even in the middle of the table in the board room!
The Ferray Corporation's successful venture has inspired other Japanese companies to follow suit and bring animals into their workplace. If those animals are anything like these nine Ferray cats, then they've lucked out and hit the jackpot.
Congratulations to the Ferray Corporation team for working to improve the lives of their employees and feline friends in need of a loving home...or a friendly office!
