Baby deer was in trouble in the water. Immediately, dog sprung into action

What was supposed to be a relaxing morning walk on the shore of Long Island Sound for Mark Freeley and his two dogs turned into an incredible rescue. One of his dogs, an English golden retriever named Storm, noticed something struggling out in the water.
Without hesitation, Storm raced into the water. Freeley pulled out his camera and began filming the unexpected rescue as it happened. As he looked more closely at what Storm was bringing into shore, Freeley realized that the animal was a baby deer.

Storm "plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore,” said Freeley.
In the video, Freeley encouraged his dog to bring the deer all the way out of the water by calling out, "Storm, bring him in! Good boy, Storm! Bring him in!"
After Storm had brought the baby deer out of the water, the deer tried to get to its feet, stumbling forward and eventually collapsing in exhaustion a short ways away from the water. Storm followed the deer to where it fell, then laid down next to it, nudging the deer as if to make sure it was OK.
Freely contacted the Strong Island Animal Rescue League for assistance. Frank Floridia of the Rescue League arrived on the scene, but his arrival spooked the baby deer, and it ran right back into the water. This time, human help was needed to bring the deer back in.
"I really didn’t have much of a choice,” Floridia said. "If I didn’t go in the water, the deer would’ve died.”
It took another eight minutes and a rope to wrangle the deer back to shore again. The deer had numerous cuts, bruises and an eye injury, and it was covered in ticks.
The rescuers transported the deer to the Save the Animals Rescue (STAR) Foundation, where it received medical treatment. It will remain there for a few months until it is strong enough to be released into the wild. Check out the video update that STAR has posted about the deer.
As for Storm, he has become a hero, and rightfully so! He has made the rounds on television talk shows and even received an official proclamation from the Suffolk County Legislature for his "heroic actions."
We salute Storm for his willingness to save another living creature.
