Pitbulls have had a really bad reputation, and it's largely undeserved. Yet they continue to be discriminated against anyway, and in some localities, it is against the law to own them. The story of this pit bull might change some public perception.
A police officer rescued Kiah, a pit bull, from an abusive situation where she was chained outside in the bitter cold and snow. The officer trained Kiah, making her the first pit bull to be trained as a police K9. Since then, Kiah has been showing the world how smart, capable and agreeable a pitbull can be.
While many people still see this incredible breed as a threat, most pit bulls—like most members of any breed—are affected by their upbringing and environment. Treat them badly, and they may become bad. Treat them well, and you could have a dog like Kiah.
The officers at the Poughkeepsie Police Department think that she's wonderful. She goes on patrol to help the officers maintain law and order.
In her off time, she's changing the perception people have about her breed. People love to stop and pet her, and the officers have found her to be a great ambassador for the police station.
Intelligence just oozes from every pore in this dog, and she's positive proof that a pit bull can be valuable not only as a police K9, but also as man's best friend.
