Stray cat showed up on porch but refused to let family see his paws

Life can be tough for a senior cat, especially if he ends up on the streets in cold weather. No one knows where Buster came from or what this friendly ginger cat's past was when he first showed up on a family's back porch in Ontario, NY, in October 2017.
But he clearly needed help.

As they left food out for him, the family noticed that he always tucked his paws under his body. He also looked uncomfortable and in distress. They worried that he wouldn't last much longer without care. After a while, they were able to catch him.
They then took him to Lollypop Farm, which is the Humane Society in Greater Rochester. There, the vet determined that he was about ten years old, a feline senior citizen.
It was also discovered that he had plasmacytic pododermatitis. This rare and poorly understood disease causes sore footpads and may be related to FIV. In addition, he had an ear infection and two bad teeth.
No wonder poor Buster was limping everywhere!
Buster ended up in mitten bandages and then a Cone of Shame because he kept pulling off the mittens.
But he otherwise responded to everything the vet did to him with good humor and a lot of purring. Within a few weeks, the mittens came off, and Buster was well on the road to recovery.

Buster will soon be up for adoption. You can find him on the Lollypop Farm Facebook page.
