Negro given the honor he deserves: a hero's burial

Firefighters are their own breed of heroes, rushing into a blaze and putting fires out, rescuing any who may be trapped. Their duties go far beyond fires to helping those in need, whether the situation is trivial or life-threatening. Like any hero, firefighters rush into the danger – not away.
Any hero deserves a hero's honor regardless of whether that hero is human or an animal. Company 14 Guardiamarina Riquelme in Iquique, Chile, showed the world what this looks like when the company dog, Negro, passed away at 14 years old.

In a Facebook post, Company 14 reports the death of its faithful station fire dog: "This afternoon, one of our ranks has left this earth, our faithful four-legged firefighter, Negro." Negro served more than 10 years alongside his fellow firefighters at the station, serving with distinction and honor.
The station held a formal ceremony for Negro, notes The Dodo, giving him the title of "honorary firefighter" and the honors that go with it.
Negro's fellow firefighters acted as his honor guard, carrying one of their own for burial to a plot near the station. One firefighter posts, "He deserves it since he is also a hero, and a good companion goes up to heaven."

Negro's final march to the fire engine will never be forgotten by his fellow bomberos nor those in the community he helped keep safe. In the words of his company, "Thank you so much for the years you were with us. We will remember you forever, Negro!"
